Do you have an ongoing or recently completed education in geological sciences and want to work as a field geologist with our bedrock mapping? Then this position is for you!

The Economic Geology unit is part of the Mineral Resources department at SGU and conducts investigations of the bedrock in mineral-rich areas. We map the bedrock, document and interpret mineralizations and transformations in the bedrock, as well as inventory ores and industrial minerals. We also sample and document mineral and metal occurrences in secondary resources (sand deposits, waste heaps, etc.) and conduct soil geochemical mapping. Our activities cover the entire country, and we also participate in EU-funded and international collaborative projects. The focus is primarily on the mining and exploration industry.

We are now looking for field geologists who want to contribute to investigations of Sweden's bedrock during the field season.

Job Responsibilities

As a field geologist focusing on bedrock geology, your tasks will involve field investigations of the bedrock. This includes mapping, sampling, and database entry of collected information. Fieldwork will be carried out together with and under the guidance of our bedrock geologists somewhere in the country within the current project area. After an initial introduction to the occurring rock types and SGU's methodology in the field, your tasks will primarily be conducted as independent work in the field. Transportation in the field is done on foot and by rental car.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

  • a degree in or is nearing completion of their academic education in bedrock geology
  • navigational skills with map and compass
  • a valid driver's license (B)
  • the ability to express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish

Desirable experiences and qualifications:

  • experience in fieldwork
  • experience with ArcGIS
  • interest in interdisciplinary issues

Personal Qualities

As a person, you are responsible, structured, and meticulous. You are proactive and have a sense of order, as well as a desire to learn new things. You enjoy working both independently and in a group and find it easy to collaborate and communicate with others. Since the position involves fieldwork in uncharted terrain, it is beneficial if you enjoy being in the forest and can navigate through rough terrain. We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities for this position.

About the Employment

Employment type: Temporary full-time position for 4 to 12 weeks during the field season. The period will be between May and September, and will be agreed upon.

Number of vacancies: 8

Work location: Uppsala

Welcome with your application by March 14, 2025. Interviews may be conducted on an ongoing basis during the application period. Your qualifications must be verifiable through the presentation of original documents or a verified CV. We apply an inclusive approach and strive for diversity in all aspects.
